Dan,

I see you popping into a few threads here...welcome!

Can you give us any ANY status updates whatsoever for the CPU affinity spiking issue with the UAD-2 and Steinberg hosts? Anything?

Cheers!

I sent a message to UA tech support last week but I haven't heard anything back yet. I'll post it here an maybe others can add to this thread in hopes of getting a response.

Hi fellow tech supporters! I do tech support of Toontrack (EZD, S2, etc.)

Anyways, I also run a recording studio and am a producer and engineer. I've been using 2 UAD-1 PCI cards for a few years with my old P4 3ghz Win XP computer and the UAD cards have been a god send as I have been able to get more years out of this computer than I expected with it's tiny system specs (well, 5 years ago it was kick ass!)

Anyway, I'm in the early stages (research) of having a new computer built (by ADK) and I've been reading that there are issues with my current expected system (W7 64-bit, Cubase 5, and a UAD-2 Duo). I haven't bought the UAD-2 Duo yet as I had planned on purchasing it when the new computer is built. I plan on having the computer built around summer (June/July).

My question is: Where are we standing on the W7/Cubase/UAD-2 front? Is this combination working well or are there confirmed problems like those reported on forums i.e. crackling/popping and general unpleasantness?

I know that alot of problems with systems are user created and I have zero desire to build my own system as ADK built my current computer and it has been rock solid for 5 years. If you have knowledge that these issues are because of users throwing together a computer without doing enough research as to which parts work well together then that would be one thing. If there is a serious issue with the W7/Cubase/UAD-2, then that is something that would concern me with my upgrade.

As much of an investment I've made with UAD plugs and my future purchases, the plugins are just tools to me. I just wouldn't want to use a different DAW as I am very happy with Cubase and it's workflow. I also need to take advantage of W7 and it's RAM. I would probably use the 32-bit version of Cubase5 until more plugins are 64-bit but there is still more RAM available in Cubase with W7 than with XP. So, this would make UAD the one of three pieces for me to replace if this issue is to remain unsolved, regardless of where the blame is to be laid.

So, thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks.

keep us updated on their response.

i use Cubase 5, Win XP32 and UAD2 quad.

i recently posted a topic on the Cubase forum. Ive been getting seriously deafening bursts of white noise when i hit save in Cubase 5. The burst lasts 4-5 seconds, but it has often come dangerously close to completely blowing my speakers out. (Dynaudios...not cheap). Otherwise it just blows my frikken head off when ive got headphones, when it hits during a save.

There is a thread on the cubase forum already about this. It is established that everyone who experiences this has Cubase 5 and a UAD CARD.

I hope this issue is also addressed by UA. it seems that the UAD dumps its buffer or something similar. it is very painful when i forget to hit mute.

Please address this alongside the other issues UA.

With Thanks,
Blackout

VP!!! Sorry to reply so late in the game... I didn't see the post! Mia culpa... I am not worthy!!!

... anyway YES you should definitely *(if you haven't already) download and install UAD v5.6... The new 'Enable CPU Optimization' setting in the UAD Meter & Control Panel / Configuration window has helped out many users with this problem.

Also! Per 64bit Steinberg users... Get the most recent version of jbridge. This has some updates that will DEFINITELY help UAD users.
