Is the UAD-1 compatible with Windows 7?

Postby celebritymusic » Sun Jan 24, 2010 4:01 am

Hi

Just putting together a new PC system, and wondering if the UAD-1 is compatible with Windows 7?

Cheers

For me the answer is no. I just spent a day installing win 7 on my machine and the performance is unusable (cpu spikes). When I disable the (4) UAD1 cards, the system performance is great. I'm gonna try to reinstall the drivers maybe try some old drivers to get it to work this weekend. I'll post my findings.

My system is:
Windows 7 64bit
cubase 5.1.1 32 bit
4 UAD 1 cards
RME 9652
6gb ram

But are the effects working in 64 bit mode? I installed UAD-1 and all the effects are placed in the 32 bit folder. How can I install into the 64 bit folder?

Thanks for replying. SO if I install Cubase 5 on a 64bit Windows 7 machine, I wouldn't be able to use the UAD powered plugins? Or do I need a 32/64 'bridge'?

The way I understand it is:

If you run Cubase 32 no bridging required..

If you plan to run Cubase 64 then ya gotta 'bridge'..

I'm a week or two away from getting a new Win 7 64bit PC myself so I'll be finding out for certain soon. :-)

I plan to run Cubase 32 in order to use my UAD's and other 32bit plugs (CSR, ARC, Amplitube etc) 'natively' - without a bridge. I'm getting Vienna Pro Ensemble to host my VSTi's - A 32bit instance of VE Pro for Jamstix and Brass and a 64bit instance for my NI stuff will run side by side in a Cubase 32bit project on Win 7 64.. Or so I'm told..

Ahh I see. BTW I am using Vienna Ensemble Pro on my VSTi computer ( running Windows 7 ) linked with Giga Lan; It performs beautifully, absolutely stable, it's got to be my best buy for the year. I am going to get 3 computers running Windows 7 and network them together. You will be so pleased with your purchase.

Thanks.
